How to Enroll

There are three scenarios when you may enroll in most benefits.

Newly Hired Employees

You must enroll in many of the benefit plans within 30 days from your hire date. If you do not enroll, you will not be able to enroll in some of these benefits until the next year’s Open Enrollment, unless you experience a qualifying life event.

Open Enrollment

You have the opportunity once a year to enroll in your benefits. Open Enrollment is the only time you can change many of the programs, unless you have a qualifying life event during the year.

Qualifying Life Events

The choices you make when you enroll will be effective through December 31, unless you experience a qualifying event. A qualifying event includes, but is not limited to:

  • Marriage or divorce
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Death of your spouse or child
  • Change in your spouse’s employment
  • Change in your dependent child’s coverage
  • Substantial change in your spouse’s benefit coverage
  • Extended unpaid leave of absence by you or your spouse
  • Change from part-time to full-time status (or vice versa) by you or your spouse
  • Your child no longer qualifying as an eligible dependent under the plan(s)

If you experience one of these events during the year and would like to make a change to your benefits that is consistent with the event, you must make the change on the Benefit Compass system or contact the Benefits Service Center at 800-579-0889, within 30 days of the event. Otherwise, you will have to wait until the next Open Enrollment to make a change per IRS regulations.

Benefits You Can Change Any Time

The following benefit plans or programs may be elected or changed at any time during the year:

  • Supplemental life insurance (Evidence of Insurability may apply)
  • Dependent spouse life insurance (Evidence of Insurability may apply)
  • Dependent child(ren) life insurance
  • Together We Give program
  • AAA basic primary membership
  • HSA contributions
